Our First Week With The Vintage Camper

She has a name!!  RUBY

If you remember from last week we had a little trouble pulling Ruby home. So we asked around and we're given lots of suggestions.   Our problem was the tires!   How did we not know this??

After we finally figured out how to jack the camper up we got the tire off.  After we looked at it closely we decided it would need a brand new tire.

Hubby checked the remaining tire and declared that Ruby would be getting two new tires.  So our plan is to replace both tires this week.

This is how we left Ruby...

An eventful weekend

Hey friends!
Long time no post, but that is about to change because I have bought a brand new camper and I am going to take you all on my journey with me!  But first, I want to tell you the story of how this particular camper became mine.

For the past two years I have pestered and badgered my husband about a vintage camper, I'll look at them online and I dream about them at night.  For the past 6 months I have scoured Facebook yard sale sites, Craigslist and anywhere else I can think of searching for a trailer that I could fix up and make mine.  Well yesterday we went to Tannehill State Park because they were having their annual third weekend trade days where they have vendors set up crafts in the back of the fairgrounds.  Well, as we entered into the park we saw a vintage camper camping and my husband agreed on our way out of the park we would stop and talk to them and ask them about their camper and how difficult was the restoration.

We were so surprised that this camper had a for sale sign on it.  My hubby was less than thrilled.  I was ecstatic!   We agreed  upon a price.  The couple wanted to finish camping for the weekend so we agreed to make payment and pick up on Sunday afternoon.  The owner remodeled the camper by himself and this was the first time they had camped in it.  They told us they just finished the camper and this was the first time they had ever camped in it.  He camped this weekend in order to sell it.  He told me how much he enjoyed working on this camper and he planned to use this money to purchase another vintage camper and remodel.

The camper is 10 feet long.  He told us this camper is between a 1965-1968 PlayMor.  Any ideas on how I can confirm?

This is the back and I love it.  I like the shape and I am love with the tail lights.

Take a peek at the inside...

These two decals are on the outside of the camper.  The first one is right outside the door.

This is on the back right above the drain.

Our trip home was only moderately eventful.  We left the state park and everything was going fine until we herd something go bump, like something hit the trailer.  Then the camper started swaying/shaking/bouncing up and down.  We pulled over and could not find anything wrong.  We started to pull it slow and noticed that the camper bounced up and down on one side.  Any idea what could be wrong?  What could we check?

Menu Planning

Meal planning is something I need to do.  I am a working mother of two teenage girls and one hungry   Mr.  I am not an expert cook in any shape or form. However, cooking is my favorite chore.  In our house, food on the table and snacks in the kitchen make a happy home.

I receive a text every day at the same time wanting to know what we are eating for supper.  Many days I don't even know and this text is very frustrating especially since this is the time I am getting off from work.  However the Mr. does not mind cooking supper if he knows what to do.  Dear daughters also need to learn to cook a meal or two.  So... I took to Pinterest looking for an idea that may help me.  I found numerous examples of a menu board.  I am hoping this menu board makes my life easier and saves me a little money on groceries too!

This is mine:

BTW-- this little project took me all day.  But done is better than perfect and it will serve a purpose.  However I am sure that crooked recipe box will have me fixing it tomorrow.  It is driving me crazy.  However, the best part is that I used supplies I already had in the house.  So this project only cost me time.

Anyway, I am going to try to post my meal plan every Friday because I usually purchase my groceries on Saturday.

What is your tried and true recipe?

Where has the year gone?

Wow!  I have not posted in months.  My job is kicking my tail.  It is also making me rethink what I do for a living.  Oh well that is a topic for another day.  In thinking back, 2013 has been the worst year of my life.  I won't go into details but you can rest assured that I am going to do everything in my power to have a great 2014 and bring back joy to my family.

My goals for 2014 are:
Menu plan (to help save money on groceries)
Complete the 52 week money challenge
Work on the 40 bags in 40 days challenge (to declutter my home)

I will do my best to keep you updated and we will see how it goes!

Know of any blog challenges for the year?

Tuesday {Travel Trailer #1}

Happy Tuesday!  I hope today finds you all well.  I am going to try to devote Tuesdays to the adventures of our new to us travel trailer (TT).  If you will remember, we brought our TT on Friday.  I live in the deep south where the weather is usually mild.  HA!  I think the weather is Alabama is bi polar!  Really?  March 2 we had snow flurries and it was freezing outside.

Today I want to share with you the inside of our TT.  This is exaclty how it looked when we bought it.  We have made no changes.  This TT is in excellent condition and has no funky smells!

When you walk in the door you first see the sofa (which makes into a bed) and a dinette (also makes into a bed).  The colors are a brown and tan.  There is storage above.

Dirrectly across from the sofa and dinette is the small kitchen with black appliances.

Right beside the fridge is the bunk beds.  Needed for K. and A. to have their own space.  K. as already spoken that she is not sleeping in that "hole".  I guess she can sleep on the sofa. (K. is my 14 year old daughter)  We pray that she will be a "happy" camper.

Here is the picture of the bathroom.

The bathroom is at the end of the TT.  If you turn around you will see the entertainment center.

Behind the entertainment center is a queen bed.

This is what it looks like behind the entertainment center.  Since it is doubtful that I can put another TV their anytime soon I will probably use this area as storage.

Now, I need your help and suggestions.  How to you keep your travel trailer light while still having everything you need?  What color would you use to accent the browns and tans in the TT?

Happy March and Something New...

Wow!  Can't believe that this is the first Saturday in March!  I haven't blogged in almost a year!  Yikes!!  To tell you the truth our life hasn't been that exciting lately.  I am sure you are all aware of the routine we get into--Work, Work and more Work.  Our lives have been so busy we are going to try to spend time together as a family.  We have decided to purchase a travel trailer.  This decision was not make lightly.

Do you know how much your have to consider?  I have learned more about weight and towing capabilities that I ever thought I would know. J and I researched online, looked at brick and mortar stores and talked to the many friends that we know that camp.  We made a short list of what we thought would work for our family and we have finally found a new to use camper that fit all of our requirements.

On Friday, March 1, 2013 we purchased our very first travel trailer a 2009 Dutchmen Sport.

Please check back as I hope to share pictures of our travel trailer and the adventures we take with her.
